DANAI SOFIA VARDALI

JOURNALIST - WRITER

Born in Kavala Greece, Danai holds a BA in Journalism & Communication from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki and has attended courses in Cultural & Creative Industries in King’s College, London and Film & Media Studies at the University of Copenhagen. She has been working in the wider media, culture and communications sector for nearly twenty years now. She has worked for and contributed articles to several publications, periodicals  and websites in Greece and abroad (Greece Is, Kathimerini, Vice, Lifo, Athens Voice, Close Up, City magazine, Soul mag etc) covering culture, pop culture, travel and gastronomy.  Along her journalistic career she has worked with different cultural organisations (Reworks Festival, Impact Hub Athens, Animasyros International Animation Festival, the Queer Archive Festival), advertising agencies (the Flying Pot, White Rhino), brands (the Coca Cola company, Upfield/Elais) and production companies (Frog on The Road, Artechniko, Foss Productions, Filmiki Productions, Akis Petretzikis productions) in Greece as a communications consultant, producer and content creator. Currently located in Athens, Greece she works as a freelance journalist, writer and producer for TV and advertising, mainly focusing on travel, culture and gastronomy. More recently she contributed as the project’s editor in chief to the development, research, writing and production of 200 videos for the Greek Ministry of Agriculture, for the promotion of Greek PGI and PDO products through travel, recipes, storytelling and interviews with locals. Internationally acclaimed director and actress Nia Vardalos and Greek chef Sotiris Kontizas are the main presenters of the series.
Her affiliation with Animasyros International Animation Festival began in 2016 as part of the festival’s communication team. Currently she is in charge of the festival’s international relations and the production of the festival’s annual making-of mini documentary.
