
Maria Giannouli has studied film and tv direction and philosophy and she’s been working as a tv and theater director. Maria’s first medium-length documentary film ‘’Survivors’’ (Digi Beta,2011) , had its world premiere at the 14th Thessaloniki Doc Fest and won:-Best Creative Documentary in London Greek Film Festival 2012
-2nd Best In Disability Film Festival, Moscow 2012 -Best doc ‘We can do’, International Film Festival ‘’Bridges’’, CIFF 2014 and was an official selection in fests around the world.
Maria’s first short doc «Αthinas 12:00» (35 mm, 2002) won:
-Greek Ministry of Culture’ prize at the Thessaloniki Film Festival 2003
and was an official selection at the 53th Berlinale’s Talent Campus 2003 and in film festivals around Greece.
Her short doc «Samios» (HD, 2014) won a prize at the 9th Chalkida DocFest and was an official selection at the London Greek Film Festival and many others fests.
Maria has also written and directed three awarded experimental short films. (‘’Illussions’’, ‘’No woman no cry’’ ,‘’Agora 11’’ )
She is an alumini of the 1st Berlinale Talent Campus. (2003)
She has worked as an AD to Pandelis Voulgaris, John Madden (Captain Corelli’s mandolin), Kostas Koutsomitis etc. Maria has directed theater plays in Athens.
She has taught Drama at St Lawrence College. She has directed video clips and making of’s. She is a member of SEE (Greek Directors Guild)
Maria is the author of two published novels ‘’Locked Words ‘’which is now in process of translating into english and the ‘’The forest of hope’’.
She has worked as an editor in Voyager Magazine.
Her latest work is the doc ‘’Adelfia Tade’’ for ERT (National Greek Television) and the direction of the tv series ‘’Thanasis Lalas Notebooks’’ (ERT2) and is currently working on her first feature film screenplay.
