Elena Markopoulou is a director – screenwriter, born in Athens and a proud resident of Pagrati. She graduated from the American College of Greece with a Ba (Hons) Communications in Film & Television, and has been actively working in the field of television and film production in Athens since 2022.
She has apprenticed under the guidance of Artemis Anastasiadou in the creation of the student film Strokes (Audience Award – Best Short Film at the Agrinio International Film Festival 2022, Honorable Mention Athens Monthly International Film Festival 2022). Alongside her academic studies she participated in practical artistic seminars by Alexandra K* in creative writing, Christos Pytharas (Filmschool 2020) and Andrew Levitas (The Artist’s Mind Masterclass 2021) at Basil & Elise Goulandris Institute) in film directing.
Through her writing and directing she explores themes of gender and sexuality, generational dynamics and gaps, the concept of grief and mortality, in the context of human existence/non-existence in today’s society.
