MANINA ZOUMBOULAKI

SCREENWRITER, NOVELIST, JOURNALIST

Manina Zoumboulaki is a novelist, screenwriter, journalist and playwright. She translated a number of novels from English to Greek (among them, Karen Blixen’s “Out of Africa” ,Norman Mailer’s “Ancient Evenings”, George Orwell’s “Unknown stories”). She co-wrote the script for two Greek feature films (“Free Diving” by G. Panoussopoulos and “Rizoto” by O. Malea). The script for “Free diving” was based on one of her short stories. Her first short stories collection, “Memory Lapses”, was published in 1994. A second collection, “Sweet smelling spring”, followed. Her novel “Go!” became a best-seller and was adapted for a television series (twenty five episodes) by the author. A third short-stories collection, “Life is (not) a movie”, was published in 2001. She wrote a historical novel, “Dust of a day”, and a satirical novel “A Real star”. She co-wrote the script for another twenty-five-episodes’ television series, “Forget about me”. She wrote the script for a television two-part-movie, “Abduction”, for Mega Channel. Her writing manual “How to write” was published in 2007 and is re-printed every year, and another novel, “The long summer”, was published in 2008. Her novels “Happiness” (2011), “Zipper” (2014) and “Invisible girls” (2015) were published by Papadopoulos Publications, as well as her children’s’ book, “The twins hear everything” (2016). She also wrote a theater play, “Evre erga” (“Job hunting”), that was staged for two seasons (2013-2014) at Michael Kakoyannis Foundation. She has written sort stories for five published collections. She is at times teaching creative writing at the Northwestern University of Greece and, regularly, at Aegen College Omiros. Manina is currently a contributing writer in magazines and blogs/sites, among them Athens Voice, and a columnist in the Greek edition of Elle. She lives in Athens with her husband and three children.
